camel back

Early summer in the Boise area is always so beautiful, and it is a great time to enjoy the hikes around the area.  Almost every spring and summer we make it a goal to conquer the hill at camel back park.  The kids are getting so big that it really isn't much of a challenge for them anymore.  The boys hike up the hill without any help, and Lily really only needs a little encouragement to make it to the top.  It is still always a fun little hike and you are rewarded for your efforts with  some pretty views of downtown.  All of my views included these crazy kids.   It is so fun to get outside and enjoy the outdoors as a family.

Lincoln graduates

Lincoln Graduated from Kindergarten this year!  He loved Kindergarten! I really enjoyed still having him home for half the day.  When Carson isn't home he is a really great playmate for Lily.  He is such a sweet kid.  He loves school and is so excited to be able to go to school all day.  He is very social and loves that aspect of school.  He likes learning too, but he is definitely one of my more social kids. I was feeling a little emotional the day of his graduation.  I shed a few tears. I am sure people thought I was a complete headcase.  It is always a little sad for me when the kids move on to first grade.  It means they are big kids and they don't need me as much anymore, which is great, but also sad.  Also I couldn't help but think of where we were with Lincoln a few years ago with so much uncertainty about his health. We worried about limitations he might have, but we have been so blessed.  And look at him now he is healthy and thriving and just a joy to have in our family.  Way to go Lincoln! You Rocked Kindergarten!

a hike up table rock

Early this summer we hiked up table rock. The boys easily made it to the summit.  We were constantly telling Carson to slow down.  lily did really great.  It was a hard hike for her, but she hardly complained and made it all the way to the top by herself. Grant was a happy little hiker.  He was tired by then end of the excursion, and ended up sleeping most of the hike down. The view from the top is really pretty, and I think we will definitely be doing this hike again.  The only thing I didn't like is that the kids kept wanting to get really close to the edge at the top.  The drop isn't as high as it looks, but if you fell off you would get pretty hurt. I felt like I was yelling at my kids (especially Lily and Lincoln) a lot to get away from the edge.  It's okay to yell at your kids to keep them from severe bodily harm right?

Lily turns 4

Miss Lily turned 4 on us this April.  For her preschool birthday celebration she and I made cupcakes.  Since it was for her birthday I let her put her finger in the batter once or twice.  It is always difficult to know what to get Lily for her birthday, because every girl toy we have ever given her has gotten very little use.  Despite that, we went with a Sophia the First action figures as her main gift.  She seemed to like them that day, but like all of the other dolls has been played with very little.  I had high hopes for the Sophia the First gift since that is her favorite cartoon, but she just seems to prefer to play with stuffed animals to dolls.  Lily has mellowed out a little this year. I think a little may be the operative word, but we will take what we can get.  She still tends to be a very spirited and independent child.  She does not like to be told what to do, which can make parenting a little difficult.  And if you try to get her to do something she doesn't want to when she is overly tired Watch Out, it can get a little scary.  Despite all the challenges it brings we love her spunk.  I feel like her independence and spirit will serve her well through out her life. Girls need a little spunk so they don't get pushed around.  I am not really worried about Lily getting pushed around ever! She loves to look at books, and she likes to "read" me the books she has memorized. She loves to play stuffed animals. She is a good friend and makes friends easily. She seems to be a natural leader, and usually kids follow her lead in games and play. She is usually cheerful and happy (unless she is tired).  She is sweet and affectionate, and still loves to cuddle and sit on laps.  She always looks out for younger children and makes sure they are not hurt or scared. She is a second mother to Grant and frequently follows him around and makes sure he is staying out of trouble.  We sure love our Lily girl.
