August

Although, you wouldn't know it from our blog, we actually were quite busy this summer and especially in August. Below are some of the activities that kept us running around in August and all summer long.

Hanging out

We stayed busy this summer going to roaring springs, taking swimming lessons, and playing in the backyard. Roaring Springs was so fun this year for my kids! Carson really got brave this year and went on all the big kid slides he was tall enough to go on and loved to swim on the lazy river without a tube. Lincoln, following Carson’s lead, loved most of the slides. His favorites were the tube slide and the dolphin slide in the kiddie section. Another big event was swimming lessons. I was so worried that Carson was going to freak out at swimming lessons, but he did awesome! We made it through swimming lessons without one melt down and after just a couple days of swimming lessons he absolutely loved going. When we were not busy with swimming lessons and Roaring Springs the kids loved to play in our inflatable pool, talk to the neighbors through the fence and just goof around in the backyard.

Red Fish Lake

At the end of August we went on our annual camping trip to Red fish Lake. I was a little nervous because we were tent camping and I had sworn I would never tent camp there again, because it gets soooo cold. Lucky for us the weather was really warm. In fact our first morning there I ate breakfast in shorts and a light jacket. We had brought plenty of cold weather gear and although they didn’t need it the kids insisted on wearing it the first morning. We had great time fishing, hiking, and hanging at the beach. Lincoln fell in love with fishing this trip and I am sure Nate could not be prouder. Lincoln walked around almost the whole trip carrying his fishing pole and declaring “nine, nine.” Translation: “mine mine.” The only hiccup on our trip was that our last night there it poured and stormed horribly. Needless to say Nate and I got very little sleep, and Nate had to go out in the rain and fix out tent so that we didn’t get flooded out. Thankfully, we made it through the night mostly dry and the kids slept through the whole thing. Although, it was a ton of work (isn’t camping always?) we had a great time with our little family and were so glad we went.

The Fair

Latter in August we went to the Western Idaho Fair. The kid’s favorite part was the petting zoo. The petting zoo always grosses me out (those animals licking my kid’s hands, yuck!). However, I always manage to overcome my petting zoo aversion and let the kids enjoy themselves. Besides petting the animals we also took the kids on a couple rides. Carson liked the car ride, but I think Lincoln found the carousel more to his speed.

Rexburg

I started out August by taking a trip to Rexburg with the kids, so they could spend a little extra time with Grandma and Grandpa. I usually try to do this trip more in the fall, but with Carson starting preschool this just worked out better. The kids loved spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and Sandi and Mike. While there the kids did the stuff they usually do feed the horses, play on the hammock, and run around outside like crazy. This year since we visited earlier than usual we were also able to go to the Rexburg splash park and the kids loved it!
