The Lincster Turns 2

Lincoln turned 2 on New Year's Eve. I can't believe how the time flies. I made him a Cars birthday cake. He was very excited about it and tried to suck off some of the m&m's on the cake before we were going to serve it. We just made sure he got the piece of cake with his own slobber on it. He also was enthusiastic about blowing out his own candles. As you can tell from the picture below he barely avoided burning his lips when he went to blow out his candles. Lincoln continues to be a very active kid who is constantly trying to keep up with his older brother. He is Carson's little tag along and is always trying to get Carson to play with him, "play Carsy play" is a frequently heard phrase at our house. Luckily, the boys get along well and play well together most days. Lincoln is in a car and train phase and loves all things Thomas and Lightning McQueen. He is not the best sharer and so throughout the day we find him toting around a entourage of toys with him that he doesn't want to give up and share. These toys usually include a McQueen, a train and Ahh Ahh (his monkey). Generally he is a happy boy but when he is upset about things he will definitely let you know either by pouting or throwing a huge tantrum. He cracks us up because he is a bit of a tease and finds many of his own antics funny. Lincoln continues to be my snuggler and loves to sit with me and give hugs and kisses. We are so glad this little monkey joined our family.

Christmas break activites.

Over the Christmas break we decided to stay in town and basically just relax and bum around. We took the kids out when the weather was nice to play with some of their new toys that were best suited for the outdoors. Carson had a blast getting the hang of his scooter and playing with his remote control car. Lincoln liked to scoot after Carson on his trike and did love the remote control car until it rolled over his foot and then he was afraid of it and Nate had to hold him the rest of the time we were outside. Also the boys loved to play with with a castle that Aunt Janice gave them and amused themselves with that a lot. We were lucky enough to get snow this Christmas break so we ventured outside to build a snowman. We were not very prepared for the snow and had not bought Lincoln any snow gear for the year, and when we went to go buy some there was no snow gear to be found. That is why Lincoln looks kind of white trash in these pictures with his jimmy rigged snow gear made from trash bags. Luckily it wasn't too cold and both the kids still had a great time getting pulled around in the snow and building our snowman.

Christmas

We stuck to our normal routine this Christmas and Christmas Eve. we gathered together with family and had the kids act out the Nativity, sang Christmas carols, and ate way too much food. Carson and Lincoln played the part of shepherds in the Nativity. The boys did great in the play except that Lincoln kept swinging around his shepherds staff like a sword and it had to be confiscated before the play was over. Christmas morning was busy but casual, we opened gifts and plaed with our toys. Overall, it was a wonderful holiday.

Christmas advent calendar

Every year during the Christmas season I do an advent calendar with the kids. The pockets on the advent calendar usually have a small toy, a treat, or a family activity. A few of the activities we did this year included making gingerbread men, a gingerbread house, and making Christmas ornaments. I knew that the baking activities would be popular because anything involving making a huge mess and eating large quantities of sugar is a sure hit. I was surprised however by the kids interest in making the Christmas ornaments. my boys tend to have a fairly short attention span when it comes to anything crafty, but they worked on these ornaments for at least an hour, which I considered a great success.
